North Texas Volleyball Drops Sunday's Match To Southern Miss
Golden Eagles Secure Their Second 3-1 Decision Over The Mean Green
HATTIESBURG, Miss. - The North Texas volleyball team dropped a four-set match, 3-1 (25-18, 25-15, 22-25, 25-10), to Southern Miss on Sunday afternoon at Reed Green Coliseum.
In the final match of its road trip, North Texas (11-14, 5-5) posted an attack percentage of .205 opposed to the .341 mark of the Golden Eagles. Emma Eakin led the way for the Mean Green, racking up 13 kills and a .323 attack percentage.
North Texas trailed early in set one, but rallied to cut the once six-point deficit to three at 12-9. Southern Miss extended its lead to 19-13, but North Texas once again came roaring back to cut the lead to 20-17, forcing Southern Miss to call a timeout. The Golden Eagles went on a 5-1 run after the timeout to end the set 25-18.
Southern Miss controlled set two from the start, racing out to a 7-2 advantage. The Golden Eagles extended their lead to 20-9 before earning a 25-15 set victory and a 2-0 lead in the match.
Early in set three, Southern Miss again controlled the tempo, but several multiple-point runs by North Texas kept them close as the match went on. With Southern Miss ahead 20-17, the Mean Green went on a 6-0 run aided by multiple kills by Eakin and three errors by the Golden Eagles, to take a 22-20 lead. North Texas went on to win 25-22 for its lone set victory of the afternoon.
Southern Miss (18-7, 7-3) secured a 3-1 match victory with 25-10 victory in set four.
Amy Henard became the seventh player in North Texas history to amass 1,000 digs in a career with a 16 dig performance this afternoon. She also becomes the first player in program history to reach the 3,500 assists mark and the 1,000 dig plateau
Henard logged 18 assists in the match to go with her 16 digs, marking her first double-double of the season
Holly Milam recorded 12 kills in the match, extending her streak to six-straight matches with 10 or more kills
Emma Eakin registered four solo blocks in the contest, the most she has tallied this season
Chelsea Abii's .300 attack percentage is her highest of the season
This is the second time this season North Texas has been dealt a 3-1 loss by the Golden Eagles

North Texas will return home for its last home stand of the season beginning on Friday, Nov. 4, at 7 p.m. versus Marshall. The Mean Green will also host LA Tech on Sunday, Nov. 6, at 1 p.m. Friday's match marks Senior Day for North Texas. Amy Henard is the lone senior on the North Texas squad.
