NT Volleyball Ushers In C-USA Era With Sweep Of ECU
#MGVB Forces ECU To Walk The Plank, Awaits Middle Tennesee On Sunday
DENTON, Texas - Mean Green volleyball ushered in a new era, netting the first NT victory in Conference USA play by beating East Carolina in straight sets.
"I'm excited to have been a part of the first Conference USA victory and proud of the way our girls controlled the match tonight," head coach Andrew Palileo said. "I thought we served very aggressively and controlled the net as well."
North Texas made quick work of ECU, never allowing them over 13 points in a set. Sophomore Carnae Dillard unleashed 15 kills in the lopsided victory, while C-USA Setter of the Week Amy Henard added 33 assists.
"Getting the first conference game win was a good way to set the tone going into the regular season," senior captain Shelby Tamura said. "And on top of that, we controlled the speed of the match."
NT also got a team-high six blocks from captain Courtney Windham, who's solo aerial block late in the second set on an unsuspecting pirate was the biggest play of the match.
Stat of the Night
Mean Green volleyball got its highest ace total of the season with eight despite the match only being a three-set affair. Chandler Hatton, Karissa Flack and Tamura shared a team-high two aces a piece.
North Texas will welcome a more familiar foe, Middle Tennessee, in two days. It will be the two unit's first match since the SBC conference tourney last season, a four-set victory by the Mean Green.
