NACOGDOCHES, Texas -- After splitting its first two matches of the tournament, the North Texas volleyball team ended the weekend in the win column, defeating Arkansas-Little Rock 3-1 in its final match of the Holiday Inn Express SFA Volleyball Invitational. The Mean Green's record now sits at 6-8.

Though without Holly Milam, who was tending to a personal matter, North Texas' attack saw three players reach double figures in kills. Alexis Wright set a new career-high with 22, Emma Eakin tallied 13 and BrynCaitlin Walker logged 12 of her own, respectively.

"With Holly gone, it was crucial for us to spread the ball around, and Karley did a good job with that," head coach Andrew Palileo said. "Emma and BrynCaitlin stepped up today and we were able to walk out with a victory."

Once again, the Mean Green started strong and took a commanding 13-5 lead in set one, capitalizing on several attack errors by the Trojans and strong serving. Though down big, the Trojans stormed back on a 9-3 run, cutting the lead to two at 16-14. The Mean Green held on to their lead and earned a 25-19 set victory after back-to-back kills by Amanda Chamberlain and Walker.

"We tried to focus on having on aggressive serves and really get them out of system, and we did a good job of that to start off," Palileo added. "We got complacent in the second set, but got back in sync just in time for the third and fourth sets."

The Mean Green would drop set two 25-17, but came out of the break scoring at will in set three, opening up a 6-1 lead with two kills by Eakin, Wright and Jordyn Williams. UALR rallied back to tie the set at 13. After eight ties, the Mean Green took set three 25-23, aided by a ball handling error by the Trojans' Carolee Dillard.

Set four picked up where set three left off, with a back-and-forth jostle for control. North Texas took an early 4-3 lead, and held onto the lead until a kill by Veronica Marin, an attack error by the Mean Green and an ace by Edina Selimovic tied the set at 24. Emma Eakin gave North Texas the lead with her 13th kill of the match. The Mean Green secured the set 26-24 after an attack error by the Trojans.
