Volleyball Drops Its Final Match Of The Weekend In Four Sets
#MGVB Hits The Road For The SFA Invitational Beginning Friday
DENTON - The North Texas volleyball team dropped its final match of the weekend 3-1 (25-16, 25-15, 25-21, 25-18) to UNC-Wilmington in day two of the North Texas Invitational, moving its record to 4-7.
"UNCW is a team that you cannot make a lot of errors against," head coach Andrew Palileo said. "We made too many today. We need to work on limiting our mistakes in key situations moving forward."
The Mean Green (4-7) had 19 attack errors in the first two sets, which aided in UNCW taking a 2-0 lead in addition to UNCW out-hitting the Mean Green .322 to .028.
After the break, Palileo made a lineup change, putting the libero jersey on Meredith Bramer along with starting Mikali Myers, and Emma Eakin in the set.
"I needed to see different players in different roles," Palileo said. "We weren't taking care of the ball very well and we needed a spark to get us going."
Myers and Eakin provided that spark, combining for five kills in set three and making timely plays on defense to keep the Mean Green in the match with a 25-21 set victory.
UNCW controlled set four early, but the Mean Green pulled within one at 13-12 after an ace by Amy Henard. The Seahawks took a 19-14 lead, but kills by Milam and Wright along with a Seahawk attack error forced UNCW to take a timeout at 19-17. UNCW would end the set on a 6-1 run, securing a 25-19 set victory and improving to 8-1 on the season.
"We have to work on some of the issues we had today in practice this week, so we do not run into the same issues next weekend."
• Amanda Chamberlain set a new career-high kills (23) and attacks (34)
• Karley York set a new career-high with 47 assists
• Alexis Wright and Chamberlain combined for 39 of the Mean Green's 54 kills
• Amy Henard led all players with 16 digs, a new season-high for her
