DENTON, Texas - North Texas volleyball (5-3) capped its annual tournament with an epic showdown against regional opponent Texas State and another notch in the win column.

In a competitive first set, sophomore Carnae Dillard and junior Eboni Godfrey led the offensive for NT. Dillard unleashed four kills while Godfrey tacked on a team-high six.

In the second frame, Texas State took the momentum. It was not until late in the set that NT tried to mount a comeback, coming within three, but the Bobcats found some late magic to close it out.

It was in the third set that things began to heat up between the two units.

With the set tied at 18 all, a questionable call put Mean Green head coach Andrew Palileo into a frenzy.

Fueled by its coach's fire, North Texas fired back with a monstrous Dillard mash, seemingly regaining momentum and taking the set.

The fourth set was not any less intense as Dillard continued her onslaught, ending the match with 18 kills, and a North Texas victory.

Senior Courtney Windham tied a North Texas record in single-match assisted blocks with 12 and broke her own personal best, which was nine back in September of last season against Arkansas State.

Windham and Dillard were both named to the North Texas Invitational All-Tournament Team.

The Mean Green will be back on the court Sept. 11 in Fort Worth against TCU.
