NT Volleyball Battles Utah Hard But Falls In Four
#MGVB Forced A Fourth But Ran Out Of Steam Against Second Pac-12 Opponent
Sep 6, 2013
DENTON, Texas - Facing its second Pac-12 opponent of the season, the Mean Green volleyball team could not find the magic touch late in the first couple of sets, falling to Utah 3-0 (22-25, 19-25, 25-21,16-25).
The first set proved the most fruitful for North Texas as an Amy Henard and Courtney Windham assisted block sparked a small run for North Texas when it was down 16-22. The rally fell short in the end as the Utes finished out the set with the win.
The second set also showed promise for NT in the form of a Hanna Forst kill midway through the set. But once again, Utah pulled ahead in the end.
But the Mean Green was not finished fighting in the third set in front of its always-raucous home crowd. NT stormed from four down to take a 15-12 lead at the halfway point of the set.
Following sophomore Analisse Shannon's monster kill late, the Mean Green never looked back and finished off the set in fashion.
NT flew out of the gate early in the fourth set, quickly taking an 8-4 lead riding off its third set momentum. But the Mean Green was not able to hold off a furious Utah attack in the second half of the set.
North Texas will play again on Saturday, Sept. 7, at 11 a.m. against Northwestern State in the second day of the North Texas Invitational.
