VB Moves To 4-0 For First Time Since '03
NT Invite Champs Move To 4-0, Windham Named MVP
DENTON, Texas - The North Texas volleyball team capped off a perfect weekend with a 3-0 sweep of Lamar on Saturday night, capturing the North Texas Invitational without losing a single set (25-19, 25-17, 25-17).
Courtney Windham, the tournament's MVP, led the match with 11 kills on .474 hitting and six blocks. Her efforts - 3.91 kills per set on .337 hitting - led NT to a 4-0 start for the first time since 2003 and for just the third time in school history.
Windham was joined on the all-tournament team by Shelby Tamura, who anchored the NT back line with eight digs. The junior averaged 4.75 digs per set on the weekend, and helped hold Mean Green opponents to a combined .046 attack percentage.
Fifty kills on .380 hitting on the weekend help Eboni Godfrey notch an all-tournament bid as well.
NT out-blocked its four opponents by a 31-19 margin, and served 14 more aces. In fact, Windham's four solo blocks on the weekend are only four less than she had all last year.
North Texas doesn't have long to rest as it heads to cross-town rival UT Arlington on Tuesday at 6 p.m.
