USTA/ITA Recognizes Lama With Campus Recreation Award

DENTON, Texas (12/25/09) - North Texas head women's coach Sujay Lama was selected by the United States Tennis Association and the Intercollegiate Tennis Association as the Texas sectional winner for their Campus Recreation Award.

The Campus Recreation award honors an ITA coach who has done an outstanding job implementing recreational tennis programs on campus in an effort to grow tennis participation.

In three years since being named head coach of the Mean Green, Lama has founded and implemented a club tennis team and a support group called the "Net Nuts".

"I believe it is our responsibility to promote the game of tennis on campus and in the community," Lama said. "This is a sport I love and I enjoy sharing this passion of mine with anybody I come across. Our team has benefited from reaching out to the community. Our fan attendance has increased each year and there is definitely a buzz about tennis and our tennis team. I am thankful for ITA's recognition of our efforts to grow the game of tennis"
