Mean Green Add One For Spring Season

DENTON, Texas (12/7/09) -- North Texas head women's tennis coach Sujay Lama announced the addition of Barbora Vykydalova to the roster for the spring of 2010.

Vykydalova, a native of Šumperk, Czech Republic, will be entering the season as a freshman and will bring the Mean Green roster to a total of nine student-athletes.

"Barbora has a very aggressive and powerful all court game and exceptional hands at the net," Lama said. "She will help solidify our doubles line up and really add to the depth of our team in singles.  I am very excited that Barbora has decided to join us. She is a terrific student with strong character and will help us right away with the goals we have set for the upcoming year."

Vykydalova has competed in ITF Futures tournaments throughout Europe since 2006, including a 2008 appearance in Ilawa, Poland where she won six matches, three qualifying and three in the main draw, en route to a quarterfinal appearance.

She was ranked No. 28 in women's singles in 2008 in the Czech Republic national rankings, and the highest junior ranking that she achieved was in 2005 when she climbed to No. 25.

"I chose North Texas because it has the perfect balance of great tennis and academics," Vykydalova said. "I was very impressed with the team and the coaches and the vision and the direction of the program. I cannot wait to join them and work hard to help the team accomplish the goals that have been set. I am grateful for the opportunity Coach Lama has given me and very motivated to do my best."

Mean Green tennis will be back in action Jan. 23 in Jacksonville, Fla., to take on Jacksonville University.
