Tennis Signs One Player For 2010-11
North Texas women's tennis coach Sujay Lama announced that the team signed one athlete to a National Letter of Intent for the 2010-11 season. Carolina Barboza of Solymar, Canelones, Uruguay committed to playing for the Mean Green for her freshman sea
"Carolina is the type of student athlete that will help elevate our program and take us to the next level," said Lama. "She is a fighter and a warrior on the court. Her passion and positive energy is contagious. We are very excited to have Carolina in our program. She will be a tremendous addition not just to the tennis program but to the University of North Texas."
Barboza was ranked No. 1 in the nation of Uruguay in her age groups of 12 years, 14 years, and 16 years old and is currently ranked second in the 18 year old group.
"When I got in touch with coach Lama I realized that he had an incredible team, an amazing work plan full of goals and the most important thing, he had formed a family with every single player and all the tennis staff," said Barboza. "In the last months I realized that I would love to belong to that family."
Out of the eight members currently on the roster, only one will graduate this year, so the 2010-11 rosters will feature at least eight members, seven of which will have been here for at least two years.
"I will definitely work hard and give my best to make this team better," said Barboza. "It's a great honor to compete for North Texas and I hope I can help to improve the great level that the team has reached lately."
