Lee, Ranganathan Net Consolation Championship

WACO, Texas (11/7/10) - North Texas Tennis wrapped up its fall season Sunday morning with a consolation doubles championship at the HEB Baylor Invitational from the Baylor Tennis Center.

Senior Madura Ranganathan and junior transfer Nadia Lee defeated Sun Belt Conference foe Louisiana-Lafayette's Milou Israel and Briggitt Marcovich 8-6 in the consolation final.

"It was good to end our fall season on a winning note," said head coach Sujay Lama. "Doubles play and the depth in singles are two areas of strength heading into spring. However, our goal for this brief winter off-season is to get fitter physically and work on our mental toughness."

North Texas was the only school with two teams in the doubles main draw quarterfinals, with junior Irina Paraschiv and sophomore Barbora Vykydalova giving the No. 1 seeded team from Georgia a run in the semi-finals before falling 8-6.

The Mean Green will be back in action January 14, 2011 at the Florida Gulf Coast Invitational in Ft. Meyers, Fla. The dual season begins a week later, January 22, at the University of Arkansas, who finished last spring ranked No. 22 in the nation.
