DENTON, Texas - Mean Green tennis completed a perfect 10-0 day on Friday at the Game On North Texas Classic at the Waranch Tennis Complex.
The 10-0 day marks the first time this fall that North Texas has finished a day undefeated and extends the overall record to 76-32.
"It was an overall solid day. I liked the way that we battled in a couple of those matches. Paula (Dinuta), Valentina (Starkova) and Franziska (Sprinkmeyer) came through and never gave up on themselves or their match. We're going to have to come back tomorrow morning against a very good Akron team and play just as well as we did today and hopefully we can come away from it with similar results."
Freshman Ksenyia Bardabush and Barbora Vykydalova were impressive from the beginning, teamining up to defeat Martina Trierweiler and Gaby Vazquez 8-2.
Bardabush would then go on to run through trierweiler in singles, 6-4, 6-1, while Vykydalova dismantled Anastasia Sylenko 6-0, 6-3.
The duo of Starkova and Sprinkmeyer dominated UTEP's Dasha Abdrahkmanova and Sylenko 8-0 in doubles before having to grind out their singles matches in three-set thrillers.
Senior Nadia Lee and junior Ilona Serchenko fought through a tough doubles match in the morning for a 9-8 victory over Carolina De Luca and Marie LeBlonde 9-8.
Lee would then dominate De Luca in singles, 6-0, 6-2, while Serchenko played a great match, downing Abdrahkmanova 6-1, 6-2.
Play at the Game On North Texas Classic resumes Saturday morning at the Waranch Tennis Complex at 11 a.m.
