Mean Green Tennis Wraps Up HEB Baylor Invitational

DENTON, Texas (11/2/09) - North Texas Tennis wrapped up the HEB Baylor Invitational on Sunday. Senior Catalina Cruz made it to the semi-finals of the women's consolation draw, but fell to Ole Miss' Connor Vogel 6-0, 6-3.

"Catalina has worked extremely hard and the results are finally showing. She has shown great leadership both on and off the court and I was really happy to see her have success this week," head coach Sujay Lama said. "All of our athletes came out and played tough opponents this weekend and I believe that this weekend just continued to build their experience for the spring."

Lama decided to mix things up on the doubles front, throwing new pairings out together for the first time in the 2009-10 season. Amy Joubert and Irina Paraschiv made their debut together on Friday, and took down a duo from Rice 8-4.

"I decided to mix things up and see who could play well together and I believe that we found some alternate teams here in Waco," Lama said. ""The success we had with two of the new combinations gives us more options for our dual matches. That's certainly very encouraging."

Madura Ranganathan teamed up with Narine Kazarova as the other new doubles team North Texas used, and defeated a pair from Ole Miss 9-8 (3).

The Mean Green tennis program returns home to prepare for the North Texas Classic.

"We are excited to finally play at home," said Lama. "The schedule we've played has been very challenging. It has made us better and now I would like to see every one step up and play their very best this weekend."

The action begins Friday morning and continues on Saturday at the Waranch Tennis Complex.
