WILD WEST SHOOTOUT CENTRAL

DENTON -- Cue your The Good, the Bad and the Ugly soundtrack, because the Wild West Shootout begins bright and early at 9 a.m. on the morning of October 31 at the Waranch Tennis Center.

Head coach Sujay Lama and North Texas tennis welcome four other programs -- Air Force, Colorado, Stephen F. Austin and UT Arlington -- to Denton to compete in a tournament with four singles draws and two doubles draws. There will be a total of 32 players in the event, with six representing the Mean Green.

Lama and his team have had the Wild West Shootout circled on their calendars for a while now, and they hope to a big showing of support from the North Texas fans this weekend.

"We are very excited to host a tournament at home so that our fans have the opportunity to see our ladies compete," he said. "It's a great way to finish the fall season. The weather forecast is great, so hopefully we have a great turnout for the event."

In the Green draw, senior Kseniya Bardabush makes her fall debut against freshman Tina Bokhua of Colorado and junior Anastasiya Shestakova matches up with junior Mary Meyers of Air Force. Meyers, however, will not be available to play on Friday, so Shestakova will face a fill-in competitor from NCTC.

Sophomore Alexis Thoma headlines the White draw against Air Force sophomore Lily Forlini in the first round, while junior Kamilla Galieva also faces an Air Force foe, senior Tiffany Tran. In the Black draw, junior Ana Sofia Cordero is set to play junior Valeria Terentyeva of SFA, and in the Silver draw junior Agustina Valenzuela matches up with freshman Carley Hatcliff of Air Force.

"We'll be close to full health for this tournament," Lama noted. "It's great to have Kseniya and Kamilla back and it will be nice to see a couple of new doubles teams playing together."

Speaking of those doubles teams, the Mean Green sends out three of them who will look to win the Green and White draws.

In the Green draw, Galieva and Shestakova pair up and will play Forlini and Tran of Air Force, while the duo of Bardabush and Thoma match up with SFA's Terentyeva and senior Malena Gordo. Finally, in the White draw, Cordero and Valenzuela have a match with Hatcliff and sophomore Chloe Forlini of Air Force.

Along with the general excitement for the tournament, Lama and his team especially want to finish the fall season on a high note and carry some solid results into the long winter break.

"These ladies have put in a lot of work and have improved a ton," he explained. "We hope to do very well so that we go into the offseason feeling good about the progress we've made."
