WACO, Texas (10/22/12) - North Texas doubles duo Valentina Starkova and Barbora Vykydalova proved too much to handle for Lamar's Helene Czudek and Carolina Salas. The duo defeated Lamar 8-5 on their way to win the doubles consolation finals at the USTA/ITA Texas Regionals at the Hurd Tennis Center on the campus of Baylor University.
"It was a great experience at the regional tournament for us overall. We played good doubles and had a lot of fun playing together," Valentina Starkova said. "We won a lot of matches and were pleased with our performance especially because we had an opportunity to stay until the very end of the tournament."
No. 12 seed Kseniya Bardabush, who is the lone North Texas singles player still in play, defeated Texas Tech's Sofya Malysheva in straight sets, 6-0; 6-2 in Monday's singles consolation quarterfinals. Bardabush defeated Brooke Dennis of UT Arlington 6-4; 7-5 in the singles consolation semifinals.
