Tennis Heads South For ITA Texas Regional

DENTON, Texas (10/21/10) - North Texas tennis hits the road Friday morning to kick-off the ITA Texas Regional from the campus of Baylor University in Waco, Texas.

The Mean Green have had a successful fall campaign thus far taking five of six flight championships at the Mean Green Invite and then having a strong showing against top-tier competition at the Oklahoma Fall Invite.

"This is the biggest individual tournament of the year for us," said head coach Sujay Lama. "It's a great stage to battle and measure our game with the best players in the region, which is arguably one of the toughest in the country. We are definitely ready for the challenge and looking forward to elevating the level of our play."

Junior Irina Paraschiv will lead North Texas into the tournament with the highest seed. She will start singles as the No. 13 seed while her and sophomore Barbora Vykydalova will play as the regions No.. 4 doubles tandem.

Senior Madura Ranganathan will be making her first full appearance in a tournament this fall after being ill.  She will team up with junior Nadia Lee in doubles on Saturday.

The ITA Texas Regional will feature Division I teams from around Texas. It will take place Friday through Tuesday, Oct. 26 at the Baylor Tennis Complex.
