LUBBOCK, Texas (10/19/07) - The North Texas Women’s Tennis team faces some highlights and disappointments at the ITA Regionals in Lubbock, Texas.
Narine Kazarova advanced in singles play with a victory over Texas Tech’s Maria Andres with 7-5, 6-0. Shannon MacKenzie won her first round match with a 6-4, 6-3 victory over opponent, Izabella Glinska from the University of Houston. Sammie Moreton and Ashley Akin also won their first matches before falling in second-round play.
“This was a tough day for us. We could not get going. There were good performances but we could not execute when we had the opportunity. It was a great learning day and we will hopefully come better tomorrow,” said head coach Sujay Lama.
Mean Green also faced disappointments when Rachel Wilhelm failed to overcome Rabea Hartmaann of Texas State with 6-3, 6-1. Both Idalina Franca and Catalina Cruz did not qualify for singles.
The Mean Green will continue Regionals tomorrow at 9 a.m., with the singles main draw kicking off a 3 p.m..
