FLUSHING, N.Y. - North Texas tennis captured three flight titles at the USTA Invitational on Monday afternoon.
Nadia Lee and Franziska Sprinkmeyer teamed up to defeat the No. 1 seed, Goepel and Saiontz, from their flight 9-8 (6) and capture the first one.
Juniors Ilona Serchenko and Barbora Vykydalova followed suit, taking thier flight in convincing 8-3 fashion.
"We had incredible run this weekend and I am very proud of the way we competed," said head coach Sujay Lama. "We showed a huge improvement since our last event in Oklahoma. We have group of ladies that are hungry for success and give tremendous effort every time they step on the court. This was a perfect tune up for regional."
Vykydalova nabbed the third flight championship at the event, winning her semifinal match by a score of 8-6 and the defeating the No. 1 seed of the flight in straight sets 6-2, 6-3.
Lee and Sprinkmeyer both fell in their flight finals matches.
"Barbora showed great poise in pulling out a win in singles and doubles. For Franziska to have another doubles title and a runner up singles finish is a testament to her hard work starting to pay off. Nadia showed strong leadership in doubles and played at a very high level all weekend long."
Kseniya Bardabush continued her stellar freshman fall season, winning her final match in straight sets, 6-3, 6-4.
"It's exciting to see the growth of this team each day. This weekend was a huge confidence boost for this team as we head into regionals."
North Texas will be back in action Oct. 21-25 when it begins the ITA Texas Regional in Ft. Worth, Texas.
