NT To Play For Four Championships At USTA Invite

FLUSHING, N.Y. - North Texas tennis wrapped up Sunday's competition at the USTA Invitational with a 10-6 overall record for the day and a 22-7 tally thus far in the tournament.

Senior Nadia Lee and freshman Franziska Sprinkmeyer registered the best days as each went 2-0 in singles and teamed up to win their lone doubles match of the day.

"We produced another good day in New York," said associate head coach Jeff Maren. Our doubles teams controlled their matches from start to finish and we played well in singles.  Our goal is to finish strong in our finals on Monday."

Both Lee and Sprinkmeyer will contend for their flight championships in singles as well as the doubles championship.

Freshman Kseniya Bardabush lost her first match of her collegiate career in the quarterfinals of her singles flight in a third set tiebreaker, but rebounded to win her second match of the day 6-3, 6-1.  She now sits at 6-1 on the year.

Juniors Ilona Serchenko and Barbora Vykydalova are also in the finals of their doubles flight after an 8-4 victory.

The USTA Invitational will conclude tomorrow afternoon from the site of the US Open in Flushing, N.Y.
