FLUSHING, N. Y. - Mean Green tennis dominated play Saturday at the USTA Invitational from the site of the US Open in Flushing, N.Y., with a 12-1 overall record.
Freshman Kseniya Bardabush continued her red hot start with a victory over the No. 1 seed of the "B" flight, Blair Seideman, in straight set fashion, 6-2 7-6 (5). Bardabush is now 5-0 in singles on the year.
Teamed with transfer Valentina Starkova in doubles, the duo went 1-1, falling to the No. 1 seed 8-4 before prevailing in the second match by the same 8-4 score.
"The team played with tremendous poise and professionalism today," said associate head coach Jeff Maren. "Winning 12 of 13 matches against a quality field is a testament to our preparation over the past few weeks. We are excited about finishing strong here in New York."
Senior Nadia Lee owned her singles opponent as she failed to surrender a game, winning 6-0, 6-0. She would team with freshman Franziska Sprinkmeyer in doubles play as the duo took both matches, first against the No. 3 seed in their flight 8-2, followed by an 8-6 victory to advance to the quarterfinals.
Play at the USTA Invitational continues Sunday morning and will be complete on Monday.
