Tennis Completes Day One In Norman

NORMAN, Okla. - North Texas tennis finished the first day of the Sooner Fall Invitational Friday with a 4-2 record in both doubles and singles.

The duo of junior Nadia Lee and senior Amy Joubert led the way with a 3-0 record on the day, winning both of their doubles matches and a singles match each.

"We had a good first day in Norman," said associate head coach Jeff Maren. "Nadia and Amy advanced to the semifinals of Flight "B" doubles by defeating teams from both UTA and OSU. All together we won 4 out of 6 singles and 4 out of 6 doubles matches.  Irina Paraschiv lost a 2 1/2 hour heartbreaker to Depaul's #1, holding match point in the third set tiebreaker only to fall 6-2, 3-6, 7-6 (7)."

Three of the four singles victories came against Sun Belt Conference foe Arkansas-Little Rock.

Freshman Carolina Barboza took down Oklahoma State's Allison Buckhartt in straight sets, 6-4, 7-6, while Lee defeated UALR's Rachel Pierce 6-0, 6-1.

"The ladies continue to impress us with their level of professionalism at this early stage in the season," added Maren.

The Soon Fall invitational will continue Saturday morning from the Headington Tennis Center on the campus of the University of Oklahoma.
