Tennis Opens Fall Season at Midland Challenge

Denton, Texas (9/17/09) -The North Texas tennis team kicks off its 2009 fall campaign with the Midland Challenge this weekend.

The tournament, which is an individual style tournament that does not award team points, will be played Friday morning through Sunday afternoon at The Racquet Club in Midland, Texas.

"We are excited to go back to Midlands and get some matches," said Head Coach Sujay Lama. "It is a terrific event and we've really enjoyed competing there the past couple of years. This tournament will help us evaluate where we are as team and get some of the rust off."

The Challenge features seven Intercollegiate Tennis Association preseason ranked players, with the highest of those being Baylor's Taylor Ormond at No. 32.

The Mean Green returns eight of nine student-athletes from last year including No. 1 singles player Irina Paraschiv who collected a 14-6 record last spring. All eight returners had .500 or better record and will see action on Friday morning.
