Tennis To Debut Newcomers at Sooner Invite

DENTON, Texas - Mean Green tennis takes to the road for its first tournament of the fall season when it plays the Sooner Invitational in Norman, Okla., Friday through Sunday, Sept. 16-18, on the campus of the University of Oklahoma.

The tournament will mark the debut of the highly touted 2011 signing class for the Mean Green, with two transfers and two freshmen taking the court for the first time in a North Texas uniform.

"We are excited to get our season started at OU this week," said head coach Sujay Lama. "We've had outstanding practices thus far, but the ladies are looking forward to playing matches against someone other than their teammates. We will get a really good understanding of where we are as a team and what we will need to focus on for the rest of the fall season from this event."

Ilona Serchenko, transfer from McNeese St., and Valentina Starkova, transfer from Arkansas, look to pick up where they left off after solid outings for their respective squads last season.

The two freshmen, Franziska Sprinkmeyer and Kseniya Bardabush, will be playing their first competitive collegiate matches in the United States.

Senior's Nadia Lee and Paula Dinuta, along with junior Barbora Vykydalova will also see their first action of the year, while Irina Paraschiv will be held out of fall competition to rehab a previous injury.

Daily updates will be provided on MeanGreenSports.com.
