North Texas Tennis Named ITA All-Academic Team for Third Straight Year
The Mean Green Tennis team was named an All-Academic Team for the third stratight year by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association.
DENTON, Texas (8/21/09) - For the third straight season under head coach Sujay Lama, North Texas tennis had four players named Intercollegiate Tennis Association Scholar Athletes for the 2009 season.
Sophomore Paula Dinuta, juniors Amy Joubert and Shannon MacKenzie as well as recent graduate Rachel Wilhelm were the four student-athletes named ITA Scholar Athletes. The Mean Green tennis squad was named an All-Academic Team by the ITA as well.
"This is tremendous accomplishment for our team," said Lama. "This is a testament to how hard these ladies work both on and off the court. They are truly deserving of these honor. A special thanks goes out to our academic advisor, Tawa Dortsch who does a great job of mentoring our student athletes."
The ITA All-Academic Team award is open to any program that has a cumulative team grade point average of 3.20 or above. ITA Scholar-Athlete status is awarded to players that have a grade point average of at least 3.50 for the current academic year. Only 24 girls received scholar athlete recognition in the Sun Belt Conference for the 2009 season.
North Texas was one of five Sun Belt Schools and 113 programs nationally to earn All-Academic Team honors.
