Tennis Team, Three Players Grab ITA All-Academic Honors

DENTON, Texas (08/09/2007) The North Texas tennis team and three of its student-athletes earned All-Academic Team honors this week from the Intercollegiate Tennis Association.

Emi Itabashi, Samantha Moreton and Mary Poe were named ITA Scholar-Athletes, powering the Mean Green tennis program to an overall grade point average of 3.27 tops among all teams at North Texas.

"Our mission from day one has been to strive for academic and athletic excellence,” said head tennis coach Sujay Lama. “This is a tremendous honor for our tennis program and I am very proud of the accomplishment of our student athletes.”

The ITA All-Academic Team award is given to a program that has a cumulative team grade point average of 3.20 or above, and any player that maintains a grade point average of at least 3.50.

North Texas joins fellow Sun Belt squads Arkansas State, Denver and Troy on the ITA All-Academic list.

Mean Green tennis is slated to open the season at home with the Mean Green Invitational on Sept. 14 at the new Waranch Tennis Complex.
