Aug. 1, 2013

DENTON, Texas -

North Texas tennis head coach Sujay Lama announced this week the promotion of assistant coach Wade Zimmerman to the new role of associate head coach.

The promotion comes after Zimmerman's successful first year as assistant head coach for the Mean Green.

"Coach Wade was instrumental in the success we had last season both on and off the court," Lama said. "He is a true professional and has earned the respect of our players. We are very fortunate to have him in our program and this promotion is well deserved."

Zimmerman completed his first season with North Texas last year, which was one of best seasons in school history and featured a 4-2 a victory over Georgia State in the SBC championship. The tennis team also had the highest team GPA (3.52) at North Texas.

"I'm honored to be given the title of associate head coach of the women's team at North Texas," Zimmerman said. "I greatly appreciate the confidence that Rick Villarreal and Coach Lama have in me, and I'm looking forward to helping the team accomplish many of their goals this coming season in C-USA."
