Mean Green Tennis Earns 10th Straight ITA All-Academic Award
Seven North Texas Players Named ITA Scholar Athletes
DENTON -- For the 10th consecutive season, every season under head coach Sujay Lama, the North Texas women's tennis program has been honored with the Intercollegiate Tennis Association All-Academic Team award. Additionally, seven individual Mean Green tennis players earned ITA Scholar-Athlete distinctions.
Laura Arciniegas, Kamilla Galieva, Maria Kononova, Tamuna Kutubidze, Minying Liang, Anastasiya Shestakova and Agustina Valenzuela received the individual academic award for their respected 3.50 or higher grade point average.
Earlier this month North Texas was also rewarded by the NCAA for its off the court success with a perfect Academic Progress Rate score of 1000.
For many of these seven women this was not the first academic award they've received.
Upperclassmen Galieva, Shestakova and Valenzuela have been ITA Scholar-Athletes multiple times in past years. Furthermore, Galieva and Valenzuela have previously earned the Conference-USA Academic Medal for maintaining a GPA of 3.75 or better.
Along with Galieva and Valenzuela, last year as freshmen Arciniegas and Kutubidze earned the C-USA Academic Medal.
Shestakova's and her Russian countrywoman Kononova each earned a spot on the C-USA Commissioner's Honor Roll this past year.
The ITA All-Academic individual award is given to a varsity letter winner who has been enrolled at their present school for at least two semesters and has a grade point average of at least 3.50 for the current academic year.
The team award is a recognition for a program that has a cumulative grade point average of 3.20 or above for the current academic year.
