Tennis Selected To Participate In 2011 ITA Kick-Off Weekend
DENTON, Texas - North Texas tennis was selected by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association to participate in the ITA Kick-Off Weekend Jan. 28-29, 2011.
The Mean Green was selected to play in the Cal-Berkeley region and will face-off with the Cal Bears Friday, Jan. 28, 2011 at 10 a.m.
"We are elated to be selected for the ITA kick off week end for the very first time," said head coach Sujay Lama. "This is a reward for the jump we made this year in the national rankings. Having an opportunity to play two more highly ranked teams early in the year is going to be a huge plus for us and makes our schedule as a whole, very strong."
The Cal-Bears finished the 2010 season ranked 12th nationally and fell to No. 5 Notre Dame 4-2 in the round of 16 in the NCAA Tournament.
The other two members of the Cal-Berkeley site will be Saint Mary's College of California and Texas Christian.
Saint Mary's finished the year ranked 39th while the Horned Frogs completed their season at No. 50.
Each team participating in the kick-off is guaranteed two matches, with the 15 teams from the regional sites that win both of their matches will advance to the first team national championships of the year, the National Indoor Championship, hosted by the University of Virginia.
