Tennis Will Head To Waco For NCAA Showdown With No. 32 Tulsa
DENTON, Texas - The NCAA announced Tuesday that North Texas will be taking on No. 32 Tulsa in Waco, Texas, May 14th at 11 a.m. in the first round of the NCAA Division I Tennis Championship.
The Mean Green (17-6) earned the Sun Belt's automatic qualifying bid when it defeated No. 49 FIU 4-3 in the Sun Belt Championship.
North Texas and Tulsa have met once this season, with the then No. 40 Golden Hurricane at the Michael D. Case Tennis Center in Tulsa, Okla.
Tulsa jumped out to an early lead that afternoon, taking all three doubles matches.
Senior Catalina Cruz and Barbora Vykydalova dropped a hard fought match to the then 58th ranked duo of Erofeeva and Szatkowska 8-6.
Cruz would go on to take the first set of her singles match against Rebecca Row 6-0, before falling in the final two sets 6-0, 6-1.
In her first match since January, junior Narine Kazarova jumped out to an early lead in her singles match in the No. 6 slot with Michelle Farley, taking the first set 6-4, before dropping the second 6-3 and the tiebreaker 10-1.
The match will be held on the campus of No. 1 overall seed Baylor University at the Baylor Tennis Center. Check MeanGreenSports.com for updates.
