Tennis Announces Addition Of Volunteer Assistant Coach

DENTON (4/30/07) North Texas head tennis coach Sujay Lama has announced the addition of volunteer assistant coach Francisco Barrientos to his coaching staff.


"To have another world class coach like Coach Barrientos join our coaching staff is amazing,” said Lama. “Francisco brings over 20 years of coaching experience. His knowledge of the game will not only benefit our student athletes but also Coach Maren and me. We are very excited about the future of North Texas tennis."


Barrientos comes to North Texas originally from Valdivia, Chile. He attended the Catholic University of Chile from 1978-1982 where he studied Long Term Children Sports Development and Sport Marketing. He was a teaching professional for the International Division of TBARM TENNIS ACADEMY before coming to North Texas and he now does consulting and coaching to local players and International College prospects.


Barrientos was the coach of the Mexican National Junior Daivs Cup Team from 1986-1988 and he was a traveling tennis coach in the ITF Junior Circuit, ATP and WTA tour from 1981-2004. During the 2005-06 Barrientos was the Director of the International Division of TBARM and the International Tennis Academy. Also in 2006, he was a US national coach for Little Mo Team Europe.


"It is a great honor and privilege to be part of the University of North Texas tennis staff,” said Barrientos. “I am looking forward to being part of this very special family and I am very thankful  for this wonderful opportunity. I love the family atmosphere Coach Lama has brought and the vision he has for tennis program."
