Madura Ranganathan Named To Sun Belt All-Conference Team
NEW ORLEANS, La. - North Texas junior Madura Ranganathan was selected by the Sun Belt Conference as an All-Conference tennis athlete for her 2010 spring season.
Ranganathan is the first North Texas player selected by the Sun Belt as an All-Conference player. The last time the Mean Green had a All-Conference player was in 2000 when it was a member of the Big West Conference.
The junior joins nationally ranked players No. 86 Ute Schnoy of Denver and No. 90 Liset Brito of Florida International as well as Christine Seredni (FIU), Julia Bauregger (Denver) and Clair Clark (ULM) as the six selections for the Sun Belt Conference.
"We are very proud and happy for Maddy for being selected to the All Conference team," said head coach Sujay Lama. "She has been a cornerstone for our team, and has played a significant role in the success of our program in the last three years."
Ranganathan won 10 matches during the 2010 regular season from the No. 1 or No. 2 spot in the singles rotation. She will be the Mean Green's No. 1 singles player for the Sun Belt Conference tournament.
North Texas will be taking the court in its first Sun Belt Championship match against Middle Tennessee Friday morning at 8 a.m. from the University Courts on the campus of the University of New Orleans.
