Sun Belt Championship Next For Mean Green Tennis
DENTON, Texas - Mean Green Tennis will kick off the Sun Belt Conference Tennis Championships from the University Tennis Courts in New Orleans, La. Friday morning when it takes of Middle Tennessee at 8 a.m.
The Mean Green (14-6) swept Middle Tennessee last Friday in Murfreesboro, Tenn., 4-0. After taking the doubles point, North Texas captured wins at No. 2, 5 and 6 singles.
North Texas was one of four teams to receive a first day bye by being a top four seed. The Mean Green were seeded second overall behind No. 1 seed Florida International. Denver and Troy will be the No. 3 and No. 4 seeds respectively.
"We have group of ladies who have worked hard and come together as a team and family," said head coach Sujay Lama. "Our goal all along has been to be at our best at the conference tournament. We are ready to give it our best, enjoy the moment, and battle hard."
North Texas comes into the tournament having won its last two matches and eight of the last nine.
Narine Kazarova enters the SBC Championship on a winning streak of her own. The junior has won nine in a row and compiled a record of 10-3 in the regular season.
North Texas has only lost one dual match when Kazarova has won her singles match and two matches when she has been in the lineup.
Through the regular season, all but one member of the Mean Green collected a record of over .500. Kazarova owns the best record at 10-3, followed by sophomore Paula Dinuta with a record of 13-6 and then Catalina Cruz and Madura Ranganathan are tied at 10-8.
The winner of Friday's match will go on to play the winner No. 3 seed Denver and No. 6 seed Louisiana-Lafayette on Saturday at 10 a.m.
