Mean Green Tennis Falls At Houston, 4-3

HOUSTON, Tex. (John E. Hoff Tennis Courts) (4/14/02) The North Texas women’s tennis team (13-10) dropped a 4-3 decision to Houston on Sunday in the Mean Green’s regular season finale.

Houston won the top two flights in doubles action to earn the contest’s first point despite defaulting the third flight.  North Texas also earned a victory in flight six singles due to default, but could only manage victories in two of the remaining five flights.

Benita Bittner (Jr.; Alice Springs, Australia) and Bettina Rettenmaier (Sr.; Camarillo, Calif.) led the Mean Green attack with victories in flights four and five, respectively.  Bittner defeated Kaliey Meissen 6-3 and 6-1 and Rettenmaier defeated Candice Ridgway 6-0 and 7-5.

North Texas next competes at the Sun Belt Championships, scheduled to get under way Friday and run through Sunday.
