ARLINGTON ( 4/13/04 ) North Texas ’ Krysta Lee defeated UT-Arlington’s 97th ranked Monika Peciulionyte, but the win was overshadowed by the Mean Green’s 6-1 setback to the Lady Mavericks on Tuesday at the UTA Tennis Center.
The Mean Green dropped to 12-9 on the season while UTA, the Southland Conference regular-season champion, improved to 16-6. The Lady Mavericks recently dropped out of the national rankings, but were No. 75 in the nation as of March 16.
The Lady Mavericks swept the doubles competition, but two of the three matches were decided by just three points or less in a contest that was very competitive throughout. Lee picked up the Mean Green’s only win in singles action on the day, but two UTA victories went a full three sets.
Lee dropped a 6-2 decision to Monika Peciulionyte in the first set of the top flight, but came back to win the second set by a 6-3 score and ended the match with a 6-3 victory.
The match marked the final road contest of the season for the Mean Green, which has two home outings remaining on its schedule before playing in the Sun Belt Conference Championships. North Texas will be back in action Friday when it hosts Tarleton State at Goldfield Tennis Center at 3 p.m. NT will wrap up its regular season on Saturday against Arkansas-Little Rock in a 10 a.m. match.
