Louisiana-Lafayette And No. 42 Rice Close Out Home Slate
DENTON, Texas - Mean Green tennis, winners of six straight matches, concludes its six match home stand with the final two opponents this weekend at the Waranch Tennis Complex.
North Texas (11-5) will face off with the Louisiana-Lafayette Ragin' Cajuns (6-7) Friday afternoon at 3 p.m. before taking on No. 42 Rice University Owls (11-7) Sunday at 11 a.m.
"ULL is much improved this year and we are excited to play them in our home courts," said head coach Sujay Lama. "We are hoping for a nice crowd since it's our spirit day. The atmosphere should be great with all the festivities before and during the match."
Louisiana-Lafayette and Rice played each other earlier this week, with the Owls taking the match 6-1.
The Mean Green enters the match 6-0 in true home matches this season, having taken out then No. 74 Texas Tech, Denver and Louisville.
Sophomore Paula Dinuta has been on fire lately. Dinuta has won seven straight singles matches dating back to March 6 against Kansas State and sits at 11-5 on the season.
Of those seven matches only one opponent, Texas-Arlington's Maria Martinez-Romer, has taken a set from the powerful sophomore. North Texas is 10-1 when Dinuta wins her singles match with the only loss coming at No. 28 Georgia Tech.
Narine Kazarova also enters the weekend on a hot streak. The junior has now won five singles matches in a row with no opponent taking more than four games in a set.
This weekend is a special weekend for North Texas as it honors the athletics staff and fans on Friday and then senior captain Catalina Cruz on Sunday for senior day.
Friday will feature free hamburgers, hot dogs and lemonade for all in attendance.
Fans in attendance on Friday will also be able to enjoy the Mean Green Pep Band and honor the 2010 Sun Belt Conference Champion men's basketball team. Admission, as always, is free of charge.
