Dinuta Earns SBC Player Of The Week Honors

DENTON, Texas (4/8/09) - North Texas tennis freshman Paula Dinuta was named the Sun Belt Conference's Women's Player of the Week on Wednesday.

"I'm happy to win this award," said Dinuta. "I have been very focused and felt in great shape when playing my opponents. My game continues to get better with each match."

This is the first SBC award for Dinuta who posted a 2-0 singles record last week at Lee College and Rice helping North Texas to a pair of wins and improving the program’s record to 14-5 on the season. On Saturday, she defeated Chelsea Creed of Lee 6-1, 6-0 then won on Sunday against Rice's Jessica Jackson 6-2, 6-0.

Dinuta is currently riding a six-match win streak and has won eight of her last 10. In the last six matches, she has won all in straight sets and dropped just eight games. Paula has tallied a 6-0 mark from the No. 4 position and leads the team in victories with 13.

"We are very excited for Paula to receive this award," said NT assistant coach Jeff Maren. "She has been playing excellent tennis and has done everything we've asked her to do."

Another freshman standout for North Texas, Irina Paraschiv, earned Sun Belt Player of the Week honors back on February 25.

The Mean Green wraps up its regular season on Friday against Tarleton State and Abilene Christian before hosting the SBC Championships beginning April 16.
