Mean Green Tennis Makes Debut In ITA National Rankings

DENTON, Texas (3/30/10) -- North Texas Tennis achieved something it never has Tuesday afternoon when the Intercollegiate Tennis Association released its Campbell's/ITA NCAA Division I Women's National Team Rankings; the Mean Green sat at No. 73.

This marks the first time in school history that North Texas tennis has been nationally ranked by the ITA.

"This is a great day for our tennis program," said head coach Sujay Lama. "I am so happy for our current and former players. They bought into our vision and worked hard every day and now we have put our self on the map. This will motivate us to work that much harder to attain all our goals and keep moving up in the rankings."

The Mean Green is 9-5 thus far this season with a win over then No. 74 Texas Tech. Its five losses have come to teams that are currently in the top 41 in the nation.

The nationally ranked North Texas tennis team will be in action Friday afternoon when they take on Sun Belt Conference rival Denver at 3 p.m. at Waranch Tennis Center.  Admission is free of charge.
