DENTON, Texas (3/20/09) - The Central Florida Golden Knights host the Mean Green tennis team this Saturday at 10 A.M. (EST) from the UCF Tennis Complex in Orlando. North Texas is currently riding a four-match winning streak as UCF has won three of its last four.
The Mean Green (11-5, 2-1) have put things together in their last four matches after dropping a couple to Tulsa and FIU earlier in the season. During the streak, the unit has beaten UTEP, Lamar, New Mexico State, and Stetson.
In the Stetson match on Wednesday, NT took the doubles point and followed it up by winning four singles matches to give the Hatters their first home loss of the season 5-2. The teams of Amy Joubert/Madura Ranganthan and Catalina Cruz/Narine Kazarova both grabbed wins to receive the doubles point. Irina Paraschiv, Paula Dinuta, Narine Kazarova, and Amy Joubert all were victorious from their positions in singles.
Central Florida (8-5, 1-0) from Conference USA has played a tough schedule so far this season and possesses a nationally ranked doubles team. The Golden Knights have solid wins over Florida Atlantic, Tulane, and Penn State with losses to No. 14 Florida, No. 8 Miami, No. 7 Duke, and No. 13 Clemson. The pairing of Jenny Frisell and Elvira Serrot own a 7-2 record and are ranked 27th nationally in doubles. Frisell and Serrot have twice beaten nationally-ranked doubles teams this season. Another good team for UCF is Christy Core and Katie Orletsky who are 5-3 this year.
In singles, Orletsky leads the team with a 9-2 mark and Core carries a record of 7-4. Andrea Yachman is also up there as she has posted an 8-4 record to this point.
The Golden Knights are 1-0 all-time versus the Mean Green with the only matchup taking place 10 years ago. UCF won this match 9-0 in Orlando in 1999.
