COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (3/08/08) - The North Texas tennis team started off their weekend with a 4-3 victory over Air Force that ended late Friday night.
This victory improved the Mean Green to 6-5 record. North Texas proved to be strong early in doubles play winning a very important doubles point. North Texas won all three doubles matches against Air Force who are now 5-12 this season.
“I was happy with how our girls played,” said head coach Sujay Lama. “They did very well playing under such challenging conditions. They are playing at very high altitudes. I liked how our doubles teams played; we had unity and were aggressive out there. This match was a good preparation for when we face Denver later today.”
North Texas sent out two doubles pairs that have not played together all season, but that didn't seem to matter. It was the first time for Rachel Wilhelm and Narine Kazarova to play together as well as Idalina Franca and Amy Joubert. The now familiar duo of Madura Ranganathan and Catalina Cruz picked up their 4th win yesterday making them undefeated this season.
In singles play Franca picked up a win in the No.4 spot over Falcons Samanatha Sarkis, and she is now on a four match winning streak. Ranganathan and Kazarova also picked up victories in singles play which was just what the Mean Green needed to defeat the Falcons.
The Mean Green’s next match will be against Sun Belt Conference rival No. 24 Denver. The match is set for Saturday 8th, and will begin at .
