DENTON, Texas - No. 60 North Texas tennis returns home for two matches against conference foes when it takes on South Alabama and FIU at the Waranch Tennis Complex this weekend.
The Mean Green (6-4) split its two matches on its road swing to Arizona, falling to No. 33 Arizona, 6-1, before rebounding for the team's third ranked win of the season over No. 50 Cal Poly, 4-3.
Week Six Notes
"We have found ways to win matches this spring but have not played a complete match so far," said head coach Sujay Lama. "I'd like to see us play well start to finish this weekend. We have to come out aggressive and focused from first point on."
Reigning Sun Belt Conference Athlete of the Week Ilona Serchenko looks to pace the Mean Green. The junior currently holds a 7-3 overall record and has collected wins in five of her six matches against ranked teams.
South Alabama (4-2) comes into the match having won its last two matches in convincing fashion, defeating William Carey and UAB by a score of 5-2 respectively.
North Texas holds a slim 2-1 edge in the all-time series over the Jaguars.
On Sunday, the Mean Green will be looking for its first ever regular season victory over FIU (1-8).
The Golden Panthers own a 10-1 lead in the all-time series, with the lone North Texas win coming two years ago in the Sun Belt Tournament championship match.
First serve for Friday's match with South Alabama is scheduled for 2 p.m. at the Waranch Tennis Complex. Sunday's showdown with defending champion FIU will begin at 11 a.m. As always, Admission to North Texas tennis matches is free of charge.
