Tennis Heads to Mobile, Ala., For Showdown With No. 38 FIU and South Alabama
DENTON, Texas - Mean Green Tennis will hit the road for the third time this season this weekend to face-off with conference foes No. 38 Florida International and South Alabama in Mobile, Ala.
North Texas (4-2) is coming off home victories over Division II power Tarleton State, 6-0, and then No. 73 Texas Tech, 5-2, and is looking to continue its momentum up the standings.
"This is an important weekend for us as we face conference teams for the first time this season," said head coach Sujay Lama. "This is a great opportunity to measure our self with two teams that have dominated our conference the last ten years. We are starting to click as a team and the ladies are excited to give it their all."
Florida International (3-3) is entering the weekend on a three match skid. The Panthers have fallen to ranked opponents No. 8 Florida (4-0), No. 36 Virginia Commonwealth (6-1) and No. 44 William & Mary (6-1).
South Alabama (0-1) will be playing in only its second and third matches of the season this weekend. They lost to North Florida last weekend 6-1 and will play Florida International Friday afternoon.
The Mean Green will face the Panthers on Saturday morning at 1:30 p.m., before turning around and taking on the Jaguars Sunday morning at 11 a.m.
From Mobile, North Texas will take a weekend up before heading north to Tulsa, Okla., to square-off with No. 34 Tulsa and Big 12 foe Kansas State March 5 and 6.
