DENTON, Texas - The Intercollegiate Tennis Association moved North Texas tennis into the national rankings on Thursday, debuting the Mean Green at No. 61.
North Texas (5-3, 1-0) has won three-straight matches, including wins over No. 53 Kansas State and No. 44 TCU in dramatic fashion.
The Mean Green trailed 3-0 against Kansas State before making its com back in singles with four-straight wins to emerge victorious, 4-3.
The match against No. 44 TCU was a battle from the start, going back-and-forth until senior Paula Dinuta sealed the match with a third-set tiebreaking victory at the No. 5 slot.
Two of NT's three losses came against top-35 opponents by a mere match when they fell to No. 24 Oklahoma and No. 32 Arkansas, 4-3.
Ranked for the first time since Feb 19, 2011, the No. 61 ranking represents the second highest the Mean Green has ever been, falling one spot short of the No. 60 ranking it held at the ITA Kick-Off Classic in 2011.
North Texas will return to the court on Friday, Feb. 17 in Tucson, Ariz., when it faces off with No. 33 Arizona.
