Denton (2/15/07) The North Texas tennis team hosts UT-Arlington on Friday, Feb. 16 at 3:00 p.m. and Texas State Saturday, Feb. 17 at 10:30 a.m. at the Waranch Tennis Complex. North Texas defeated both teams last season on the home courts.
The tennis team (0-7) had its first two individual wins of the season last weekend against Sam Houston State University. Megan Schmulbach, the team’s only senior, defeated Lata Assudani, 6-3, 6-4 in No. 2 singles on Sunday for the first singles win of the season. Idalina Franca then followed suit and defeated Brooke Mills 6-1, 7-5 in No. 3 singles.
“We have been looking forward to playing at home all season long,” said head coach Sujay Lama. “The ladies are anxious to play at Waranch Tennis Complex. What’s exciting about our team is the improvement they are making with each match and the spirit they have. Our fans will enjoy our kids fight and hustle for every single ball.”
This 12-court complex is located at 1499 S. Bonnie Brae and Walt Parker Dr. at the entrance to Victory Hall, across from the Mean Green Village. This $3 million facility is named for University of North Texas alumnus Ronald Waranch. Included in the complex is a clubhouse with lounge, office space and locker rooms. The Waranch Tennis Complex has been chosen as the host site for the 2007 Sun Belt Conference tennis championships.
