SAN MARCOS (2/9/06) The North Texas women’s tennis team (3-3) edged Texas State (0-3) 4-3 on Saturday morning to pick up its second straight victory.
Texas State struck first, winning two doubles matches to secure the contest’s first point. However, the Mean Green won four of the first five singles matches completed to secure the victory.
Sammie Moreton defeated Christina Amo in the fourth flight by scores of 6-2, 7-6 (7-4) to give North Texas the deciding point. Lynley Wasson, Megan Schmulbach and Sara Giles also won their singles matches. Freshman Ashley Davis saw her first collegiate action, competing in flight six singles and flight three doubles.
Moreton and Schmulbach paired up to win the top doubles flight and now holds a 3-2 record at the No. 1 spot.
North Texas will wrap up a six-match road swing to start the season on Sunday at UT-San Antonio. The Mean Green will play the Roadrunners at 10:30 a.m.
