DENTON, Texas (2/7/09) - The North Texas tennis team looked sharp in its first two home matches defeating both Stephen F. Austin and Midwestern State by a score of 7-0 on Saturday. With these victories, the Mean Green now sits at 4-2 on the season.

North Texas certainly used the home court advantage by winning nine matches in strong fashion against both SFA (1-2) and MSU (0-1).

"We needed a day like this," said Mean Green head coach Sujay Lama. "I was happy about our execution and how we didn't let up mentally or physically. We really focused on ourselves and now have some momentum heading into our next matches."

One of the North Texas players who had a nice day on the court was freshman Paula Dinuta. Against SFA, she won in straight sets against a tough Alina Shazkho 6-2, 7-5. Dinuta played from the No. 1 position versus MSU winning in two sets 6-2, 6-1. In doubles she teamed with Shannon MacKenzie to get an 8-0 win.

"I just told myself that I was going to win," said Dinuta. "I felt like I played well today, especially in the first match. My setup was good and I improved on my slice."

Regionally ranked players for North Texas, Irina Paraschiv (No.14) and Madura Ranganthan (No. 16), also looked impressive in their matches. Paraschiv beat Roxana Enica of Stephen F. Austin 6-1, 6-2 and defeated Kaja Banas of Midwestern State 6-0, 6-0. Ranganathan won versus Sanjana Kapur of the "Jacks" 6-0, 6-0 and 6-1, 6-4 against Tonya Blair of the Mustangs. Irina and Madura also showed their No. 8 regional ranking in doubles winning 8-0 and 8-1.
