LAS COLINAS ( 2/1/04 ) The North Texas women’s tennis team (1-1) won the doubles point to jump ahead of Texas Tech early, but the Lady Raiders won four of the six singles matches to pin the Mean Green with its first loss of the season, 4-2.
The match, originally scheduled to be played at Goldfield Tennis Center in Denton , was moved indoors to the Las Colinas Country Club due to poor weather conditions.
North Texas doubles team’s Ashley Sammis/Kelli Royer and Megan Schmulbach/Holly Lee won the second and third flights to give both duos a 2-0 record this season and give the Mean Green an early 1-0 advantage.
Katherine Harris picked up the lone Mean Green victory in singles play, defeating Alexandra Zotta in flight four by scores of 6-4, 3-6, 6-4. Schmulbach won the first set against Katja Kovicic, but did not finish the math because Texas Tech had already secured the victory with four wins.
North Texas is back in action Saturday, Feb. 6, against Texas State in San Marcos and will play Sunday as well at UT-San Antonio. The two matches are set to get under way at 11 a.m. and 9 a.m. , respectively.
