DENTON, Texas - Mean Green tennis is set for its 2012 home opener on Saturday when Stephen F. Austin and Oral Roberts come to the Waranch Tennis Complex for a doubleheader.
North Texas (1-1) will kick things off with a match against the Ladyjacks (2-2) at 10 a.m. before playing host to the Golden Eagles (1-3) at 3 p.m.
Week Two Notes
"We are looking to see continued improvement in our play," said head coach Sujay Lama. "It is extra special to play at home where we always play well."
Freshman Kseniya Bardabush and junior transfer Ilona Serchenko are looking to keep their winning streak alive, with both athletes having a perfect 2-0 record after picking up singles victories in a tough, 4-3, loss to No. 25 Oklahoma on Tuesday.
Senior Nadia Lee and freshman Franziska Sprinkmeyer have been quite a duo for the Mean Green in doubles, collecting a 9-4 overall record this year and a perfect 2-0 mark in dual match play. The tandem defeated OU's Nicole Long and Whitney Wofford 9-8 last time out.
The Mean Green is 2-0 against players from SFA this season with Valentina Starkova defeating Jithmie Jayawickrema in her last match at the Florida Gulf Coast Invitational and Bardabush and Irina Paraschiv teaming up to down SFA's Lorca and Servise at the same tournament.
Play against the Ladyjacks will begin at 10 a.m. with doubles. Singles will begin upon the completion of the doubles. The match with oral Roberts is slated for 3 p.m. with the same format. As always, admission to North Texas tennis matches is free of charge.
