Bulldogs Too Tough For Mean Green

LUBBOCK, Texas (1/24/09) - The North Texas tennis team could not muster enough against the Mississippi State Bulldogs dropping the match 5-0 on Saturday night in Lubbock. The Mean Green now sits at 2-2 overall this season.

"Our play was improved today versus yesterday but the result was the same," said NT assistant coach Jeff Maren. "It was nice to have Madura (Ranganathan) back and Catalina (Cruz) and Narine (Kazarova) played well in their doubles match. We have a few weeks off now to regroup and get better."

Cruz and Kazarova won their doubles match 9-7 over Radka Ferencova and Daniela Juscova of MSU.

Ranganathan returned for the Mean Green after her battle with the flu on Friday. She was back with Irina Paraschiv in doubles to play a solid match just coming up short 9-7 versus Oleysa Tsigventseva and Natalia Mayuk.

Paraschiv had a three-setter against Martina Banikova of MSU. The two played into a third set tiebreak as Banikova won 6-3, 3-6, 1-0 (10-4).

MSU struggled as a team last year going winless in the SEC, but looks to have a stronger squad this season as they won all but one match against North Texas.

The Mean Green gets next week off before returning to the court on Saturday, February 7 against Stephen F. Austin and Midwestern State. These will be the first home matches of the year for North Texas.
