FT. MYERS, Fla. - North Texas tennis finished the first day of the FGCU Hilton Garden Inn Invitational Saturday afternoon with a .500 overall record.
During the doubles session in the morning, all three Mean Green doubles teams finished their matches with the game count of 8-5 with two of the teams on the winning end.
Junior Irina Paraschiv and sophomore Barbora Vykydalova kick started North Texas with their 8-5 win over Akron's Harutyunuan and Jagasuria in flight one of doubles.
The duo of Amy Joubert and Paula Dinuta followed suit, taking their match over Purdue's Pere and Dushkina 8-5.
Singles was a little different story for North Texas as three matches went to the tie-breaker.
Junior transfer Nadia Lee took a tough loss in flight three singles against Akron's Angelika Jogasuria. Lee jumped out to an early lead and took the first set 6-3 before dropping the second set and eventually the match as Jogasuria won the second set 6-4 and the tiebreaker 12-10.
Vykydalova, playing in singles flight four, had an opposite match from Lee. The sophomore narrowly dropped the first set to FGCU's Iris Rendon before storming back to win the match 6-7, 6-0 (12-10).
Senior Madura Ranganathan dominated her singles match from the start and took a comfortable 6-1, 6-2 win from Louisville's Sonra Bokhari in singles flight five.
The seventh singles flight saw newly arrived freshman Isabel Bos drop her first collegiate match in straight sets 6-1, 6-0. Bos arrived in Denton barely a week ago from The Netherlands.
