Mean Green Tennis Drops Five Singles Matches To Houston

HOUSTON — The North Texas tennis team won just one singles match versus Houston on Saturday at the the River Oaks Country Club Invite. 

Freshman Sille Tranberg was the lone Mean Green tennis player to win a singles victory over the Cougars. Tranberg won 7-6(1), 6-2, over Houston’s Dena Nicolaou. 

“Houston is vastly improved and played well today,,” said Mean Green associate head coach Jeff Hammond. “We have to give them credit. The goal is to come out tomorrow and play our best tennis of the weekend.”

The Mean Green did save the day with two victories in doubles over the University of Texas.

Tranberg and Alexandra Heczey defeated a Longhorns doubles team 8-3 and sophomores Ivana Babic and Haruka Sasaki won 8-5 over their Texas doubles opponent. 

North Texas will play Conference USA foe Rice in singles on Sunday and Houston in doubles.
